Mawi Asgedom, author of Evanston Reads title Of Beetles and Angels, will speak!

Evanston Reads! Of Beetles and Angels author Mawi Asgedom spoke at Evanston Township High School yesterday. Students were hooked to his every word. He answered questions, and then presented his martial arts platform of mental karate to smaller groups.
Mawi Asgedom challenges students across the country to inspire him and each other. He offers a framework where students progress from white to black belt by applying Mental Karate’s 5 principles: Initiative, Discipline, Contribution, Courage, and Awareness. On Wednesday evening, the library hosted the first of our Evanston Reads! events. Mawi Asgedom, author of Of Beetles and Angels: a Boy’s Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard, spoke to over 170 teens and adults and answered questions about his life story, courage, leadership, and why it’s important to never give up. Thanks to Mawi and to everyone who participated and made this event so much fun!
And thanks so much to the members of the Teen Advisory Board who met with Mawi before the program, showed him around the Loft, and introduced him.

This Wednesday (September 26) at 7pm Mawi Asgedom, author of Of Beetles and Angels: a Boy’s Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard is coming to the library! All Evanston teens (and adults) are invited. This is a kick-off event for the Evanston Reads! initiative and a celebration of the Loft, the library’s new space for teens.

Evanston Reads! is a city-wide reading initiative taking place throughout the school year. Evanston teens (and adults) are reading Of Beetles and Angels: A Boys Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard by Mawi Asgedom. Mawi will be speaking here at the Evanston Public Library on Wednesday, September 26, at 7 pm to launch the Evanston Reads! initiative and The Loft, the library’s new teen space.
